Psoriasis and Eczema is a common skin symptom. In the medical terms, Psoriasis is known as a Papulosquamous disorder, which means that it produces lesions that accumulate on the surface of the skin. These lesions are often silver white, with red scales that easily flake off.

It affects an estimated 50 million people worldwide. There are approximately 7 million people who suffer from it in United States alone. Americans spend millions of dollars every year for treatments.

Psoriasis is believed to be an ancient time disease. The word "Psoriasis" is derived from the Greek word meaning "to itch" . Scholars who study the Bible believe that some people who were banished with Leprosy, had Psoriasis.

Psoriasis symptoms often appear at the creases of the knees, elbows, legs, growing regions, chest, stomach, back, and scalp. Sometimes it appears on the face. Normally, Psoriasis appears in humans between the ages of 18 to 50,  but it has shown up in all ages, from newborn children  to senior citizens. 10% to 20% of Psoriasis suffers are under age 10.  Experts estimate 150,000 to 260,000 new cases occur each year.

WHAT IS PSORIASIS?

That are several different types of Psoriasis.

Psoriasis Vulgaris or Plague Psoriasis is characterized by large patches of red, raised, scaly lesions.
Guttate Psoriasis has small, drop-like spots of very thick, red, scaly lesions on various parts of the body, usually including the arms, legs, and abdomen.

Pustular Psoriasis produces small, fluid-filled blisters similar to conventional topical therapies and usually requires systematic therapy with oral steroids or methotrexate.

Erythrodemal Psoriasis causes the skin to become intensely red, similar to a sunburn. Sometimes scaling is present and is highly inflammatory. It can suddenly worsen.

An estimated 50% of patients with Psoriasis develop unsightly pitting and thickening of their nails. 5% to 10% experience arthritis-like symptoms that may affect a single joint or several joints,  usually the hands and feet. Psoriasis Arthritis can develop into severe, destructive arthritis, that leads to joint deformity, especially in the fingers and toes. Psoriasis is not contagious and does not usually make you ill. Modern medicine has not found what actually causes Psoriasis, but Traditional Medicine has discovered the source of Psoriasis.

CASE STUDY

A beautiful, 28 year-old woman, who was working at the Bank, had been suffering from Psoriasis for many years.  She had various medical treatments from many specialists. She was administered steroid shots, cortisone shots, and steroid cream for application to the surface of skin from medical doctors. However, her Psoriasis symptoms seem to get worse, with no relief in sight!.

She complained about alternating hot and cold sensations. She was experiencing extreme coldness inside her body, while the surface of the skin was very hot.  She had a lot of stress from work and family, and was suffering from insomnia due to intolerable itching. Later, she was isolated from society because her Psoriasis spread to her face. She became erythematous, described as having well-defined plaques covering her face with characteristic silver scales and plaques that appeared on her face, chest stomach, front, back, scalp, and extremities.

It seemed that there was no hope for her to get well.  Finally, she decided to seek alternative medical attention. She started treatment on January 21, 1999. The first 10 days of her treatment, she did not take pictures.

She was treated with Traditional Korean Five Element Acupuncture and Herbal Medicines. After 7 months, the patient's symptoms were gone and have not returned
