Written Testimony from a Gout Patient

To whom it may concern:

Francisco C. Camacho

My name is Francisco Cabrera Camacho and I am a 38-year old patient of Dr. Chong from the HME Oriental Medical Research Clinic. I am from Chalan Okso, Wusstig Rd., Dededo, Guam. I am providing this written testimony to state the facts from my own personal experience regarding the treatment of my gout condition through acupuncture.

At first I was very skeptical of acupuncture treatments because I never thought it would actually help me with my gout condition. However, after suffering one whole week of severe pain and taking prescribe medication that was not working, I decided to consult with Dr. Chong. It was actually my massage therapist that recommended me to go see an acupuncturist, and HME was at the most convenient location for me.

When Dr. Chong first saw me, I was at the most painful stage of my gout. I've had the gout for about a week and actually missed two days of work due to the severe pain I was feeling on my right foot. The center of the pain was on the surface part of my foot between the second and third toes, and immediately below that same area on the sole of my right foot. I was unable to put on my regular shoes due to swelling, and every type of footwear I put on was just too painful. For a whole week I was limping and was unable to walk normally. Driving was also a risky activity because I was also unable to step hard on the vehicle brake. I dreaded every red light because that means I had to step on the brake, which was excruciatingly painful to do.

Dr. Chong saw and treated me with acupuncture from April 19, 2004 to April 29, 2004. I would normally have gout pain for about a month after each attack. However, ten days was all it took for Dr. Chong to relief me of more than 95% of the pain. The most amazing feeling after each treatment is walking out of the clinic with less pain than when I walked in. I became a believer after the first day of acupuncture treatment. Each treatment of acupuncture was between 30 to 45 minutes each session. Most of my sessions made me so relaxed that I fall asleep and then wake up with renewed energy. All in all, I made 10 visits with the majority of the costs being covered by my health insurance company. I also paid for my acupuncture prescription of `chi tonic' in pill form, and a month's supply of herb tea that Dr. Chong recommended as a way to `flush out' my system.

If you have a fear of needles, don't worry about it. Dr. Chong knows how to make you feel relaxed by having you massaged and by using a special breathing technique, you hardly feel the prick of the needles. His technique of acupuncture is almost like a mosquito or ant bite feeling. So if you can stand a mosquito or ant bite, then you don't have much to worry about. You really do not feel the needles while you sleep, too. Depending on the location and the degree of pain, Dr. Chong will use somewhere between 10 to 15, or more needles. In all my acupuncture treatments, Dr. Chong used less than 20 needles, but you hardly feel most of them because not only that he cuts off the pain from my gout, but he also uses an acupuncture technique that cuts off the pain from the needles, too.

And regarding the cost of acupuncture, I totally believe it is worth every penny. My first visit cost me $60 dollars and the remaining 9 visits were only $16 each, as co-payment. Based on your condition, Dr. Chong may also prescribe you with `chi tonic' and herb tea, both reasonably priced. What is priceless, though, is when I am able to enjoy driving myself to work, jogging, and practicing Karate with my kids. I also enjoy bicycling, swimming and playing other sports, pain-free and without gout. Now, I definitely know where to go in case I get my next gout attack.
